Tbilisi - Mtskheta -Gori - Akhaltsikhe (Rabat fortress)
1 day . Tbilisi Arrival in Tbilisi. Meeting at the airport, transfer and accommodation at the hotel of chosen category. Free time. At the request of the evening walking tour of Old Tbilisi - tours of the Russian language
Day 2. Tbilisi Breakfast in the hotel. Bus - a walking tour of the Tbilisi with English speaking guide (Duration 5-6 hours). At the beginning of the tour we will pass through the main streets of the city. On the way, stop at the "Dry Bridge", where we will visit the market of paintings and hand-made souvenirs raboty.Sobor Holy Trinity, the largest in the entire Caucasus, podedem to the Metekhi Church (Church of the Assumption of the XII century), where lie the first Georgian martyr - the queen RanskayaShushanika. Next, we go up to the cable car above the Kura to Mother Georgia statue and to the fortress Narikala (IV century), which comes off a breathtaking view of the city. From the castle we go down to the complex of sulfur baths in Abanotubani district, which is located in the heart of Tbilisi, will visit one of the baths (anyone can book for yourself surcharge bath to relax in your spare time). on the way we visit the Sioni Cathedral (Our Lady of the Assumption of the VI century), Anchiskhati Basilica (Church of the Nativity of Our Lady of the VI century) lunch in a restaurant with wine After lunch, our tour will continue the trip to Mount Mtatsminda, which translates as "Holy Mountain", where we will visit the temple and the tomb of St. David Alexander Griboyedov. 3 day. Mtskheta - Jvari - -Uplistsihe Gori
Breakfast in the hotel. Departure on a bus tour "Mtskheta - Gori - Uplistsikhe" with Russian speaking guide (Duration 6-7 hours). Our tour begins with a visit to the temple of the Holy Cross of VI century Jvari monastery, which stands on a high mountain and was immortalized by Mikhail Lermontov's poem \"Mtsyri\". It offers a beautiful view of the merger of two majestic rivers - Aragvi and Mtkvari and the ancient capital of Georgia - Mtskheta. When we go down to Mtskheta, we walk through the streets of the city and visit the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (the Living Pillar XI century), which houses the relic of the greatest of all Christians - Heaton Christ. Lunch in a restaurant and souvenir shopping.
After we will go to Mtskheta ancient cave city - Uplistsikhe, which in Georgian means \"Fortress of God.\" Uplistsikhe is one of the first cities in Georgia (late II - early I millennium BC) Then we go to the city of Gori, which was born in 1879, Joseph Stalin. Accompanied by a local guide, we will visit Stalin's House Museum and see the house and the room where he was born and spent his childhood. Return to Tbilisi hotel. Free time .
4 day. Ahaltsihe- fortress Rabat:
visiting Rabat fortress ... On a small hill near the shore of the river quiet Potshovi, stands the main attraction of the town of Akhaltsikhe - old stone fortress Rabat. Its name comes from Arabic and means "fortified place". It is located on the western edge and is visible from almost anywhere in the city. Built in the XIII century, it is a military facility has seen a lot in his lifetime. BIRD - WATCHING TOUR
Day 1: Departure for Tbilisi
Day 2: Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Kazbegi In the morning Tbilisi sightseeing tour and then drive to the Great Caucasus. En route visit Mtskheta and Ananuri complex. Overnight in Kazbegi.
Day 3-4: Kazbegi We spend these two days in the mountains to see unique birds of the Great Caucasus: Caucasian black grouse (Tetrao mlokosiewiczi) and Caucasian snowcock (Tetraogallus caucasicus). Other birds we can observe in this area are Guldenstadt`s redstart (Phoenicurus erythrogaster), Great rosefinch (Carpodacus rubicilla), Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), Bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus), Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus), Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus), Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus), Chough (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax), Bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus), Raven (Corvus corax). On day 4 in the evening we return to Tbilisi.
Day 5: Tbilisi – David Gareja – Tbilisi Today we travel to the semi-desert landscape of David Gareja to observe some unique desert birds: Roller (Coracias garrulus), European bee-eater (Merops apiaster), Hoopoe (Upupa epops), Rock nuthatch (Sitta neumayer), Wallcreeper (Tychodroma muraria), Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus), Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus), Rock sparrow (Petronia petronia), Chukar (Alectoris chukar).
Day 6: Tbilisi – Iori Valley – Tbilisi A four-hour drive will take us to Iori valley in Kakheti region. Here we can observe the following birds: Black francolin (Francolinus francolinus), Pygmy cormorant (Phalacrocorax pygmeus), Imperial eagle (Aquila heliaca), Black vulture (Aegypius monachus), White-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), Short-toed eagle (Circaetus gallicus), Roller (Coracias garrulus), European bee-eater (Merops apiaster), Hoopoe (Upupa epops), Rock nuthatch (Sitta neumayer), Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus), Chukar (Alectoris chukar).

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF SIGHTSEEINGTbilisi City tour includes visits to Old City monuments: -Narikala Fortress built in the 4 th century. In ancient times it crowned the whole city. It has inaccessible slopes and served as a fortification which defended the city from enemies for centuries. The ruins of fortress and church are located on the hill near the Old Town. -Sioni Cathedral, the main cathedral of Georgia built in the 6 th cent. It was destroyed several times as a result of wars, so it has several construction layers. One of the Holy relics of Georgian people, cross of Saint Nino, enlightener of Georgia is kept in this temple. -Mtatsminda – “Holy Mountain” is at the altitude of 729 m above the sea level, with a leading position over the city. The first name dates back to the 6 th cent. and is linked with the name of monk David who according to the legend led a secluded life there. Near the Saint David’s church there is a pantheon of famous Georgian public figures. From the top of the mountain one may observe the magnificent view on the while city. ⦁ -Metekhi church, 5 th cent. is one of the most important architectural monuments of old Tbilisi. Its name connected with the name of Vakhtang Gorgasali, founder of Tbilisi. His statue is erected near the church. The decoration of the church involves Georgian national motives and traditions and trechnically well done. -Anchiskhati basilica church , constructed in 6 th century is one of the oldest churches of Georgia. The first foundation dates back to 4 century and is connected with the adoption of Christianity in Georgia. -Old Sulphur Baths are founded on the spot of natural warm sulphur waters which have curative properties. Near the old construction built in oriental style two centuries ago are located modern blocks with wide choice of bathrooms. Guests arriving in Tbilisi very much enjoy having baths and recover from sickness. -Museum of Fine Arts is located in the Freedom square, center of Tbilisi City. On the upper floors of the museum are displayed the masterpieces of the famous Georgian painter Niko Pirosmani and other well known artists of remote centuries. The most important part of the museum are represented by the Golden Treazury, which involves old golden icons. ⦁ - State History Museum situated in the Rustaveli Avenue, main avenue of Tbilisi city presents vast collection of unique items of remote past of Georgia and neighbouring countries beginning from the artifacts of Bronze age ending with the valuable jewelry and garments of Georgian noblemen. It has various departments with chronological sequence. MTSKHETA TOWN SIGHTSEEING /26 KM/ FROM TBILISI Swetitskhoveli Cathedral was initially built in 4 th cent during Saint Nino stay in Mtskheta. In 11 century, during flourishment of Georgian Architecure on the foundation of the old construction was built grand cathedral decorated by Georgian traditional ornaments. The fortress wall surrounded cathedral was built in the 17 cent. In Georgian language Swetitshoveli means “life-giving-pillar”, which is connected with the place inside cathedral, where is buried the Jesus Christs robe. - Jwari Monastery was built in the 6 th cent. on the top of the mountain surrounded by magnificient scenery of Caucasian mountains which can be observed far away and view over Mtskheta. In Georgian language Jwari means Cross. According to ancient manuscripts Saint Nino brought the wooden cross to this place and since those times many people came here and worshipped God. Nowadays monks live and guard this monastery. -Samtavro Nunnery was bult in 13 century near the small church named after Saint Nino. During her stay in Mtskheta she lived at that place under the bushes. GORI SIGHTSEEING /90 km/ FROM TBILISI -Uplistsikhe cave town – 20 cent B.C. is located near Gori. On vast territory of the rock are located ancient settlement constructions built on the slopes of the mountain. In ancient times the city Uplistsikhe played an important role as one of the main trade centers of Georgia. Here arrived the tradesmen from Eastern and Western countries. Nearby stretched the route of Silk Way. - Ateni Church was built in 7 th cent in inaccessible woods slope of the mountain near Gori. Owing to its secluded location, many frescoes and ornaments are remained to our days. KUTAISI SIGHTSEEING /250 KM/ FROM TBILISI Gelati Cathedral built in 12 th cent. was one of the main educational centers of Georgia.It was built in reign of David the builder. He was buried at the entrance of the cathedral. Gelati Academy which functioned in the Cathedral gave education to well known Georgian scholars and noblemen. The students were taught maths, astronomy, philosophy, history and foreign languages. - Bagrati Church was built in 11 cent by king Bagrat III. It is distinguished by original style of architecture. Traditional Georgian ornaments are mixed with unique technique feature European monuments. It was heavily destroyed during Turkish invasion in 17 cent.Unfortunately the visitor may observe only ruins of this majestic construction. - Motsameta monastery was built in 18 century. The name of the monastery “Martyrs” in Georgian is connected with the torture of two Georgian noblemen by Arab invaders who tried to force them to worship islam. The monastery is built on their burial place. TELAVI SIGHTSEEING /165 KM/ FROM TBILISI Ikalto Academy- was built in 12 cent., during the period of flourishment of Georgian culture. Here are remained to our days the ruins of educational premises where worked prominent Georgian scholars. Besides usual lessons, the students of the Academy had the opportunity to exchange their knowledge in the open air facilities. Thereto they were employed in wine making procedures in the basement of the Academy yard. New Shuamta Nunnery built in 16 century is connected with the name of queen Tinatin, who in accordance with the historical sources had a dream in which a saint told her that she hade to build the church on that place. Later she left the family and entered the monastery and led secluded life there. She was buried inside the church. -Old Shuamta Monastery was built in 7 th cent in the picturesque place in thick forest. It was deliberately constructed in inaccessible place where the enemies could hardly get in touch. The church has underground construction for secret communications with other churches. -Alaverdi Cathedral, majestic huge construction in the Alazani valley was erected in 12 cent. Its name is connected with Josef Alaverdeli, one of the 13 Georgian priests who came from Syria after their education and founded many sacred places throughout Georgia. He was buried inside the church. As other churches of Kakheti region, Alaverdi cathedral is built with limestone and have simple strict decorative style. -Gremi – the old capital of Kakheti region till 18 cent. It involves old monasteries and educational buildings. Gremi was one of the important cultural centers of Georgia.
Easter in tbilisi
1 DAY Arrive in Tbilisi early in the morning. Transfer to the hotel and free time. After late breakfast Tbilisi sightseeing programme. We start our visit to Old Tbilisi from Metekhi Church (13th century), then walk up to the brick-domed Sulphur Baths. From the Baths we head up the hill to visit Narikala Fortress (4th century) - one of the oldest fortifications in the city. Afterwards we continue to the Synagogue, Sioni Cathedral (6th-7th centuries) and Anchiskhati Church (6th century). This marks the end of the Old Town. After lunch we visit the stunning treasury of the Georgian Art Museum, before taking a stroll along Rustaveli Avenue - the main street in Tbilisi. In the evening Diner in the typical Georgian restaurant and overnight in Tbilisi.
2 DAY We visit Uplistsikhe Cave Town (1st millennium BC) where the Great Silk Road used to pass. This is an old and interesting complex with dwelling quarters, wine cellars, bakeries, a three-nave basilica church hewn out in rock and even an antic theatre. In the evening return to Tbilisi.
3 DAY Passion Thursday is connected to the Last Supper when Jesus Christ washed his apostles’ feet and when Judah betrayed him. According to Bible Last Supper ceremony takes place after service. Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia washes feet to twelve priests juts like Christ did with Apostles. We have a chance to attend this ceremony. After lunch we visit an enamel workshop and see how cloisonne enamel is made. The secret technology of making cloisonne enamel is preserved only in Georgia. We also attend the process of making metalwork and wood carving.
4 DAY Good Friday is connected with Crucifixion, lamentation and burial of Jesus Christ. The Georgian church conducts deposition and lamentation in a special way. At 2 pm a cross is put in front of the alter and a special ritual follows. We attend this ritual in Svetistkhoveli Cathedral. That’s the place where Christ’s Robe is buried. One by one pilgrims enter the copy of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem built inside the cathedral to honour symbolically the tomb of Christ. We can participate in the process and also visit the ancient capital of Georgia – Mtskheta. Another process we attend is that of painting eggs red symbolizing the resurrection of Christ.
5 DAY In this day we will travel in the Grand Caucasus. We drive along the famous Georgian Military Highway and visit Ananuri complex (17th century). The two churches and the fortress overlook the Zhinvali reservoir. We also drive to Gudauri (2200m) and see peaks of Grand Caucasus. In the evening returned back to Tbilisi and have free time before go to the church for Easter ceremony.
6 DAY In the morning drive to David Gareja cave monastery (6th century) in located in semi-desert. The complex consists of 19 monasteries. After seeing Lavra Monastery we walk up for about 50 minutes to Udabno Monastery to enjoy its wonderful painted caves and dramatic views across to Azerbaijan. In the monastery we acquaint with ascetic life of hermits in a deserted place. In the evening return to Tbilisi.
7 DAY We travel to Kakheti – the famous wine-growing region. Georgia is the cradle of wine-making. In a local village we visit a farmer’s house to see a unique 300 year-old wine-cellar. We get acquainted with the Georgian way of wine-making, quite different from the European one. Here we taste 5-6 year-old red and white wines and enjoy the lunch with a local family with home-made dishes and wines. Today we also visit St. Nino’s Monastery (4th century) where St. Nino, the woman who brought Christianity to Georgia, is buried. On the way back to Tbilisi we also visit Ninotsminda Nunnery (6th century).
8 DAY Early in the morning transfer to the airport.
